StartVR Internship
In the second half of 2017 (August - November) I worked as an Intern at StartVR, a Virtual Reality Startup in Surry Hills, Sydney. My primary role involved bug testing VR experiences and pointing out possible UX/UI issues with the various experiences. My secondary role was researching and creating small VR Experiences to be used by the company as well as designing graphics for the office arcade machine. Along with practical experience in applying design and UX/UI principles, development skills and project management skills, this internship gave me experience in designing for a virtual space and exposure to working in a start up environment.
Sculptures By the Sea VR Experience
I was tasked with researching and creating a simple VR experience, accessible by the web, for viewing Sculptures by the Sea models in a virtual space. The aim was to allow users to view sculptures up close and interact with them, particularly those sculptures that were out at sea or too fragile to be touched in person. The sculptures were created using photogrammetry and converted into 3D models that could be imported into the experience.
Arcade Machine Design
I was tasked with creating an arcade machine design for the company arcade machine in which every side was a different size. I began by measuring out the machine and creating a 3D model to scale in Rhino3D. I then created the graphical elements in Photoshop and Illustrator, importing them into Rhino3D for preview purposes. I decided to include in the design the history of the controller leading up to VR controllers to personalise and link the design to the office space.
Client VR Demo Reel + Application Assets
StartVR was looking for a simple and easy way to create demo experiences for clients without needing to overexert their developers with constant updates. I was tasked with finding a software which allowed easy update of content and could be exported to Samsung Gear VR. I was then tasked with creating the demo experience reel to be the primary version of the application.
They also tasked me with creating assets for their various public applications such as the Wentworth VR Experience.
